What to Bring

· Yoga Mat ( if you don’t have one, we can provide a temporary loaner, but for hygiene reasons you are best to have your own mat, also you will need it to practice at home. We have good quality mats available at the Yoga Supply Outlet in the building)

· Water bottle ( we offer bottled water for 1.00 if you forget yours)

· Blanket ( army cot type, or Mexican blanket...we supply cotton yoga blankets as well)

· 3 pillow cases ( we provide the pillows, you bring the covers for hygiene and to help keep them clean)

· Small hand towel rolled with elastics on each end ( we use this for a prop in several applications)

What to Wear

Comfortable stretch clothing preferably with cotton blend, not too loose or bulky. You can dress in layers so that if you get warm you can layer off. Do not wear nylon pants or non breathable fabric, as they slip and will cause you to overheat.

Yoga Classroom Etiquette 101

Quiet Space- Arrive quiet:  the centre is a safe refuge for you to explore yourself through yoga and connect with your still point. Each person comes to CYI for different reasons. Each individual deserves an equal opportunity to get the most from their experience while here.  Please honour yourself and others by moving quietly through the centre.

Leave quiet: After class notice what you are feeling. Try leaving quietly and savour the experience.

Entering Late – sometimes this is unavoidable. When you arrive, enter your class quietly and remain at the door until the teacher motions you in. Be mindful to quietly set up your practice space with minimal disturbance to others.

Leaving Early – when unavoidable…tell your instructor when you need to depart so you can work out a good time to quietly pack up your gear and exit.

Classroom chatter – save your visiting with friends for another time, stay present for yourself. Remember, when you talk while in a pose or receiving instruction, you not only loose out but they also have been distracted from their process.

Cell Phones – please turn off your phones before entering the building.

Mat etiquette – the mat is symbolic of your safe place. Respect other people’s safe place by not walking on another person’s mat unless you have been invited to do partner work.

Shoes- remove your shoes when you enter the building. Carry them to either coat areas. When leaving please wait to put them back on until you are at the bottom of the stairs to avoid soiling the hall & stair carpets.

Perfume – please avoid wearing a fragrance to class as other students may have allergies.

New Beginnings

“Every new beginning is beautiful, filled with extraordinary opportunities, like a door opening on a whole new life. In beginnings there is a childlike innocence, and this innocence is filled with humility, filled with patience. On the spiritual path, these two virtues are paramount; humility and patience. To a beginner they are readily available.

A beginner know he doesn’t know, so there is humility. A beginner knows for certain something is going to happen, so there is patience. With humility & patience as his support, a beginner advances into the unknown  to discover a glorious event that is yet to occur.

Even after achieving the goal of all spiritual practices, you cannot be indifferent to a new beginning. A beginning is forever full of magic, enchantment, and treasures to be explored. No matter what the occasion, a new beginning must be approached with the mystical awareness of its potential.”
