The Canadian Yoga Institute is a non-profit charitable organization (charity # 868910811 RR0001). We began our organization in 2000, with a pilot project teaching classes at a space rented from the UofL. From that early project we formed a small non-profit organization to ensure that our community would have a genuine yoga centre that fostered the healthy lifestyle of yoga. It was quite a journey to get from that point to where we are today. We have moved a few times, and made due with less than ideal situations as part of our growing pains. It has been a worthwhile journey.

Nearly 6 years later The Canadian Yoga Institute is reaching many people in our community with the gift of yoga. Many thanks to resources donated by numerable local businesses, and a few Grants from Alberta Sport & Recreation, TransCanada Pipeline, and Alberta Community Development, and the countless volunteer hours from individuals who all had a hand in creating this lovely refuge for our community.

We have simplified our original vision for our Centre in order to make CYI more sustainable. We have no salaried staff, only volunteers. We contract various people for work that volunteers are unavailable for. This enables us to operate debt free, and keep our overhead minimal. All our resources are devoted toward programming, and teaching resources.
